> Senior Civil Engineer

Donald L. Hamlin Consulting Engineers, Inc. (DLHCE) has an immediate opening for a senior civil engineer to join our team of experienced professionals providing complete engineering solutions and services from project inception through final construction.

Donald L. Hamlin Consulting Engineers, Inc. is one of the oldest civil engineering and land surveying firms in Vermont. Founded in 1965, DLHCE focuses on excellence in engineering in all aspects of its service to clients while providing a family atmosphere for our employees. Services include water supply and wastewater, stormwater management, residential, commercial, and industrial development, traffic engineering, community development, permitting assistance, construction phase services, surveying and mapping, and surveys that utilize drone platforms for photogrammetry and LIDAR.

We are seeking an experienced civil engineer to provide project management, design, and permitting services for a variety of residential, commercial, institutional, agricultural, and municipal projects. Applicants should be team focused, committed to the professional growth of co-workers, and be capable of working both in office and field environments.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an accredited college
  • Registered Professional Engineer licensed in the State of Vermont
  • Minimum of 10 years professional design and construction experience

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, schedule, coordinate, and monitor the assigned engineering projects
  • Develop and review engineering studies, design plans, contract documents, and cost estimates
  • Prepare and submit local, state, and federal permit applications and supporting information
  • Provide bidding assistance and construction administration services
  • Monitor compliance with applicable codes, permits, QA/QC policies, performance standards, specifications, and contract documents
  • Interact with the clients to interpret their needs and requirements and represent them in the field
  • Assign responsibilities and mentor project team
  • Review engineering deliverables

Requirements

  • Proficiency with AutoCAD/Civil 3D and Microsoft Office suite software
  • Familiarity with hydraulic/hydrologic modeling software (such as HydroCAD)
  • Knowledge and experience with local, state, and federal rules, regulations, best practices, and performance standards
  • Ability to work on multiple discipline projects in a team environment
  • Project management and supervision skills
  • Decision making ability and leadership skills
  • Time management and organization skills

We are seeking a self-motivated entry-level civil engineer with an eagerness to learn and a passion for engineering. Working under experienced Project Managers, the successful candidate will work on a variety of projects involving residential, commercial, institutional, agricultural, and municipal projects. Applicants should be team focused and be capable of working both in office and field environments.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an accredited college
  • Engineering Intern certification (or obtain within 1-year)

Responsibilities

  • Data collection, field studies and measurements
  • Field survey assistance
  • Design computations and design development
  • Preparation of project plans and details utilizing CAD software
  • Provide support related to technical reports and permit applications
  • Construction observation

Requirements

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Time management and organization skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite software
  • AutoCAD/Civil 3D experience a plus
  • Ability to work on multiple discipline projects in a team environment
